Vixen

A vixen has many different definitions in modern pop culture.  No matter however where the term is used, a vixen most often can include the description as a hot and sassy, attractive female.  The actual definition of a vixen if you want to read the dictionary would tell you that a vixen is a sexually attractive woman, a shrewd ill-tempered female, or its original non-culturally induced definition: a female fox.  In modern times, anyone referring to a woman as vixen in most cases is referring to a gorgeous woman.  Be careful however because this word too can imply an attractive woman with a little bit of an attitude or negative disposition.  Not always a well received compliment.

The most famous Vixen has to be Mari Jiwe McCabe, a comic book character made internationally famous by DC Comics.  Vixen the comic book was first published in an Action Comics book released in July, 1981 (#521).  Created by Gerry Conway with Bob Oksner, Vixen was the first officially released black female superhero.
A sexy and powerful comic book fantasy hero, Vixen’s rein as her own comic book series did not last long.  When DC comics fell on hard times, the Vixen got the axe and her series cancelled.  Since her first shot at her own series, Vixen is only featured as a “walk in “ character in Action Comics and also several publications of comic teams series, most remarkably the Justice League and the Suicide Squad.

The superhero Vixen’s fictional character’s story starts in Africa where the legend states the great warrior Tantu petitioned the spider Anansi to create a totem that would provide the wearer of this totem the powers to control all that of the animal kingdom.  The power was only to be used to protect the innocent.  The totem was passed down through generations until it was eventually worn by the Vixen.

The Vixen’s interesting power was allegedly to be able to contact and control the world’s morphomagnetic field, referred to in the series as simply “The Red”.  The morphomagnetic field allows Vixen to mimic the same abilities animals possess such as running faster, jumping higher and further, and enhanced “fighting” techniques.  Additionally Vixen could use this power to fly and swim like a fish in her short lived career defending the innocents of the world from more evil-prone comic book characters.  Vixen’s costume, not surprisingly, is a sexy bikini type brown outfit revealing her strong and powerfully sexy body beneath.

Vixen was also the name of a somewhat commercially successful all girl rock band most popular during the late 1980”s and early 1990’s.  The band Vixen originated in the Los Angeles glam rock sector although the members are originally from Minnesota.  Vixen was comprised of lead singer Janet Gardner, bassist Pia Maiocco, and the founding member and band guitarist Jan Kuehnemund in 1984 while all still attended high school.   Signed first by label EMI, except for a few reunion shows including an appearance in 2004 on VH1, the band is mostly, well history.
